amsterdam - The European Space Agency has released images which the effects of see a huge flood on Mars billions of years ago. The satellite images show an area that has emerged after a series of huge tidal waves.

The European satellite Mars Express has captured pictured the so-called Kasei Valles system. The area is about 3,000 kilometers long and contains vast canyons and ancient riverbeds of up to five hundred kilometers wide. Pieces larger than the largest canyon on earth, the Grand Canyon. Which is 19 kilometers wide.

The plain was formed after the area 3.6-3.4 billion years ago was submerged by giant tidal waves of ground water came up through earthquakes.

Mars Express also laid a solid crater with a diameter of 25 kilometers. Caused by the impact of a meteorite before the flooded area.

The water of the ocean was probably in a million years, astronomical concepts very quickly, frozen or evaporated. Thus the ocean would have disappeared. Some researchers therefore believe that the ocean has not existed long enough for life to form.

Scientists in recent years have increasingly found evidence that water once flowed on Mars. Water is the source of life, but on Mars the water is gone. The planet is millions of years very dry.
