Mega diamond sold for $ 40 mln

amsterdam - The diamond world is shining again. The fifth largest diamond, 910 carats, has been sold for $ 40 million this week in Antwerp.

Gem Gem, a successful mining company for some time, sold the stone to an anonymous private individual.

According to Gem Diamonds, the auction was a rough stone that was listed as the Lesotho Legend. The blinker from Lesotho with a size of two golf balls was found this year in the Letseng mine, renowned for its rich finds on precious stones. This is the largest that was mined.

But not the biggest in price. Previously, Lucara Diamond sold an 813-carat stone for $ 63 million and for a diamond of 1109 carat, $ 53 million was tagged last year.

Gem Diamond has so far taken six diamonds larger than 100 carat from the mine, by far the best year in its history.
