- A Canadian who was reported missing for thirty years, was found after he suddenly realized who he was.

The then 21-year-old Edgar Latulip disappeared on 2 September 1986 in Kitchener Ontario, he suffered from mental health problems and had, according to the police, the intelligence capabilities of a 12-year-old. The police thought he had taken a bus to Niagara Falls.

Now it appears that Latulip had traveled to another city, some 120 kilometers southwest of residence. There he ran shortly after brain damage in a fall, and he suffered from amnesia. From that moment he fabricated a complete new identity for himself.

Last January, however, the man suddenly got a bright idea. He went to a social worker and said he thought he might be someone else, reports CBC News. The social worker looked up in a database of missing persons and indeed found his picture. DNA testing this week gave final confirmation.

Police speak of an extremely rare case. 'Usually when someone goes missing for so long means that he or she will not be found,' said a police spokesman told the news station. 'Whether they are now sadly deceased. '

Latulip will soon be reunited with his mother, who had to miss him thirty years.
