kearns - A man drowned Saturday in a pool in the US state of Utah while he was trying to hold his breath under water for a long time. Lifeguards on the spot knew that the man, 39-year-old Gabriel Crowther was practicing this and therefore did not intervene immediately.

Just before 9:00 am local time, the incident occurred in the Kearns Oquirrh Park Fitness Center swimming pool in Kearns. Eventually the man was pulled out of the water by lifeguards and resuscitated. Although the emergency services came on the spot, Crowther died on the spot.

According to the American police, these incidents do not occur very often. 'That's the risk that you run when you do something like that', according to local police chief Brian Lohrke.
