Macron wants to honor the controversial Pétain despite criticism

World November 7, 2018 14:16

charleville-mezierres - French President Macron has said that he finds lawful the honor of former Marshal Philippe Pétain. Pétain led the French in the First World War to victory in the Battle of Verdun, but worked in the Second World War with the Nazis. He was then dictator of Vichy-France.

Jewish groups and political opponents have a lot of criticism of Macron, who wants to pay tribute to Pétain along with seven other commanders from the First World War on 11 November. Then it is exactly a hundred years ago that the war ended.
