ankara - Three prominent Turkish journalists have been sentenced to life imprisonment for support of the failed coup in 2016. Two, according to the court, also sent encrypted messages in a talk show on television that was broadcast the night before the attempted coup d'état. It is the journalist and economist Mehmet Altan and his brother Ahmet.
The journalist Nazli Ilicak also got a life sentence, as did three co-defendants. The six would belong to the 'media branch' of the movement of Fethullah Gülen. According to the government, this Islamist and political rival of President Erdogan in the US was behind the attempted coup. The supporters and organizations of Gülen call the Turkish justice the Fethullalistic Terrorist Organization.
