Libya War crimes go unpunished

- All parties in Libya committed war crimes and human rights violations, without anyone being punished.

Because the judiciary fails, the UN Security Council should intensify supervision and to prosecute those responsible by the International Criminal Court (ICC). That the High Commissioner for UN Human Rights Council Zeid al-Hussein, said Thursday.

UN investigators have executions of prisoners, murders of prominent women activists, torture, sexual offenses, kidnappings, indiscriminate military attacks on civilians and abuse of children documented. Names of suspects have been transferred to the ICC, but this has not yet led to prosecutions.

Libya is in disarray due after the overthrow of dictator Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. Since 2014 the country has two governments.
