Libya late former IS slaves free

tripoli - The Libyan authorities Wednesday released dozens of former prisoners of Islamic State. These are Africans who first detained in the former IS stronghold of Sirte and were later detained in a Libyan prison.

The group consists mostly of Eritrean and Nigerian women and children who escaped during heavy fighting in Sirte. IS kidnapped some of the women while they were on their way to Europe. They were used as sex slaves.

After their escape from the hands of the terrorist group attacked the former slave owned by Libyan troops. They were then locked up for months in the city of Misrata, so that research could be done on their possible links with IS.

The women complained last year to journalists about the bad treatment they received in prison. They were starving in their own words and humiliated. The group has been transferred to employees of the UN refugee agency UNHCR and the Red Crescent.

Dozens of other former prisoners of IS are still stuck in Misrata.
