Large police force Berlin for AfD demo

berlin - On Sunday in Berlin, the police deployed 1,800 people to keep participants of a demonstration of the populist party AfD and a series of counter-demonstrations apart. This was reported by German media Thursday.

The AfD announced earlier this week to 10,000 people to be expected at the demonstration Zukunft für Deutschland (Future for Germany) but the board of the party has now scaled back to 5000. The authorities in Berlin expect that the thirteen announced counter demonstrations will be clearly more massive unpack.

The police are deploying many people because counter-demonstrators have already announced that they want to block the march of the AfD in various places. The government district and the Brandenburg Gate are closed with barbed wire.
