Large demonstration at 'brown coal forest' Hambach

munster - Thousands of people have gathered in the forest near the German Hambach for a demonstration against the grubbing up of trees. 'There are thousands of people here who want to send a clear signal again', says Martin Kaiser of Greenpeace.

On Thursday, the police still banned the protest, but the judge ruled Friday that the demonstration could continue anyway. Energy company RWE wants to cover more than 100 hectares of forest in the coming months to expand lignite mining in Hambach.
