- Minister Bert Koenders (Foreign Affairs) has been criticized in the United States of legislation that the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) would be violated. 'This legislation goes against what we stand for,' the minister said in Washington.

Koenders was referring to laws passed recently in several states. 'So may transgender people in North Carolina do not go to the toilet on their gender and businesses in Mississippi may refuse their services and products to LGBT people,' said the Foreign Ministry.

Netherlands according to Koenders hopes that the legislation will be reconsidered soon. 'The Netherlands will always speak out against such discrimination prohibited by international conventions to which the US has joined' the minister said during the meeting on the rights of LGBT people in the Dutch embassy.

The Dutch objections would be transmitted to the US government. 'The criticism of the laws in the states is also conveyed to the US authorities on the federal level,' said the spokesman Koenders.

The impugned legislation also controversial within the US. For example, the US Attorney Loretta Lynch said the law in North Carolina an example by 'state-sponsored discrimination.' She threatened is not withdrawn by measures like the law.
