antwerp - The Belgian king Filip has visited the place in Antwerp on Tuesday afternoon where an explosion claimed two lives on Monday night. He thanked the rescue and emergency services and wished the victims and their neighbors 'strength and courage'.

The monarch was in the company of, among others, Prime Minister Charles Michel, Mayor Bart De Wever and the urban disaster officer. He took a look at the three buildings at the Paardenmarkt that collapsed as a result of the explosion and allowed himself to be caught up by the fire brigade.

The explosion caused at least fourteen people injured, five of whom are serious and one is in critical condition. The cause is still unclear. However, a gas leak is strongly taken into account. Terrorism was already ruled out by the police on Monday night.
