torere - Three people were shot dead in the Indonesian province of Papua. Alleged separatists shot in the Torere district on two boats with voters and officials with ballots from the local elections, the police reported.

Among the dead are two police officers. Three agents are still missing. A few days ago an alleged separatist also killed three people at the small airport in the Nduga district in Papua. Elections were postponed in that district because of the violence.

Indonesia already took into account beforehand during the local elections in Papua.

The current Indonesian provinces of Papua and West Papua formed Dutch-New Guinea. The Netherlands ruled the area in 1962 under international pressure.
