'Key new chancellor of Austria '

- The boss of the Austrian railways Christian Kern is Austria's new chancellor. That Austrian media reported Thursday. Friday following his formal nomination by his party SPÖ.

Kern (50) will succeed Werner Faymann, who resigned Monday. Faymann also laid down the presidency of the SPÖ party. That function is also taken over by Kern. Faymann stated that he no longer has the support of his own party and that therefore he step down after 7.5 years.

Kern was in 2010 head of the Austrian State Railways (ÖBB). Previously he was, among other science journalist and assistant to the Secretary of State.
