Judge orders release former Prime Minister of Kosovo

strasbourg - Former Prime Minister of Kosovo Ramush Haradinaj should be released. That the French court decided Thursday. Haradinaj must not leave France, as long as no final decision on an extradition request from Serbia. The Kosovar was arrested last week by French police.

According to that country Haradinaj is a war criminal. He was a guerrilla commander during the Kosovo war of 1998 and 1999. The predominantly inhabited by Muslim Albanian Kosovo declared independence from Serbia in 2008 but Belgrade regards it as a renegade Serbian province.

The Yugoslavia Tribunal in The Hague, Haradinaj twice acquitted of murder, rape and torture during the war. That members of the 'Kosovo Liberation Army' (KLA) were guilty of human rights violations tribunal considered it plausible, but too little evidence for the judges saw implication of Haradinaj.
