Journalist sentenced for insulting Erdogan

- The Turkish journalist Can Dündar was sentenced by the court in Istanbul to be converted 9000 euro fine for insulting President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's son Bilal and several ministers. That has let the lawyer know Dündar Monday.

Dündar had written columns about a corruption scandal in 2013. Several ministers from the Islamic-conservative AKP government, their sons and the son of Erdogan were then to be suspected of involvement in corruption.

Lawyer Bülent Utku announced to enter an appeal.,, My client has only done his duty as a journalist. He did not use offensive words. Dündar is editor of the newspaper Cumhuriyet. With Erdem Gül, the correspondent of the newspaper in the capital Ankara, he is still up in another process. They are among others accused of espionage, attempts to overthrow the government and supporting a terrorist organization because of revelations about Turkish arms supplies to rebels in Syria. In that case, their life sentence hanging over his head.
