Journalist and translator slain in Afghanistan

kabul - An American photojournalist and his translator were killed Sunday in Afghanistan when their vehicle drove into an ambush. The military vehicle with the men, according to the army was hit by a rocket.

Besides journalist David Gilkey and translator Zabihullah Tamanna also came to the military life that drove the Humvee. Gilkey was an experienced journalist who has worked in several conflict zones.

According to the army, the Taliban are responsible for the missile attack on the car, which drove on the road between the provincial capital Lashkar Gah and Marjah place. The route was only recently released by security forces because the area had previously been the scene of heavy fighting.

Gilkey was in Afghanistan for US National Public Radio and accompanying Afghan soldiers at the time of the attack. Two other NPR employees were unharmed.
