rome - The Five Star Movement (M5S) and the Lega in Italy are close to an agreement on the formation of a coalition government. Later Monday, the leaders of the parties will briefly meet with President Sergio Mattarella to explain the policy they want to implement.

Leader Luigi Di Maio of the protest party M5S is expected at half past five at Mattarella. Foreman Matteo Salvini of the far-right Lega will speak with the president at 6:00 PM. Mattarella has the final word on the appointment of the new prime minister. It is not known which candidate the Lega and M5S have in mind for the premiership.

The conversations between M5S and Lega did not get off the ground due to disagreement about the role that Forza Italia of former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi should play. His party is an ally of the Lega, who did not want to drop him. However, M5S refused to go into the sea with the Berlusconi, who was scared by scandals. At the end of last week Berlusconi announced that he would not stand in the way of the formation of a government with only M5S and the Lega.
