rome - The Italian police have a brother and sister arrested on suspicion of hacking into politicians, businessmen and public institutions. The 45-year-old man and 49-year-old woman, according to police acquaintances from the financial world of the Italian capital. The illegally obtained information was probably used by them for trading.

The detective duo came on the track with the help of the FBI. Names of affected persons or institutions the police did not. Media reported that it concerns thousands of hacked e-mail accounts, among others, the former Prime Ministers Matteo Renzi and Mario Monti and President Mario Draghi of the European Central Bank.

The male suspect was trained as a nuclear engineer and would have developed the malware. He is the head of an investment company called Westland Securities. As brother and sister computers hacked they received information that relates to national security, says the police.
