Italian mafia ringleader arrested in Mexico

mexico city - Mexican police have arrested a leader of the Italian Mafia. This was announced by the Attorney General Friday. The 64-year-old Giulio Perrone was including in his home country for drug trafficking on the list of most wanted criminals.

The Neapolitans had been more than a decade on the run. In Italy, a prison sentence of nearly 21 years after he awaits extradition to which he had been convicted.

Perrone was arrested in Ciudad Madero, a city of Tampico in the state Tamaupilas, near the US border. The region is known as one of the most violent in Mexico. The drug cartels operate regularly with Italian mobsters.
