new york - Israel has withdrawn from the struggle with Germany and Belgium for a non-permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council in 2019-2020. Jerusalem estimates its chance of winning as too small, according to a UN source on Friday.
The 193 members of the UN General Assembly elect five new members next month for a period of two years, starting on 1 January 2019. Israel, Germany and Belgium were candidates on behalf of Western Europe and other countries. The Netherlands is represented in the Security Council this year.
