jerevan - The leader of the protest movement in Armenia wants to shut down the country, because the parliament has rejected him as prime minister. In a speech to tens of thousands of supporters, Nikol Pasjinjian said that Wednesday morning starts blocking roads, the railway network and the airports.

Opposition leader Pasjinjian was one of the driving forces behind the protests against Serzh Sarkisian who was prime minister for ten years in Armenia. Following the protests, Sarkisian announced his departure last week. Opponents accused him, among other things, that he tried to stay in power for too long.

Pasjinjian was the only candidate to succeed Sarkisian. During a vote on Tuesday, Pasjinjian received only 45 of the 53 required votes. Parties that are in the hands of Sarkisian did not want to give their vote to the opposition leader.
