singapore - An operation aimed at cybercrime by Interpol and researchers from seven countries from Southeast Asia has revealed nearly 9,000 malware infected computer servers and hundreds of infected websites in the Asian region. That has revealed the Singaporean cybercrime department of the international police organization on Monday.

Different types of malware, such as targeting financial institutions, performing DDoS attacks or spreading spam, were found on the infected servers. Nearly 270 websites also had malware in the code, including government websites with personal information from citizens.

The operation followed an attack earlier this year at the Singapore Ministry of Defense, stolen the personal data of 850 soldiers and employees in what the Ministry called a targeted and planned attack.
