Imprisonment for Indonesian jihadists

World February 9, 2016 13:21

jakarta - An Indonesian court has sentenced Tuesday seven supporters of the Islamic State group to prison terms of three to five years. The court considered it proven that they were planning to commit or prepare terrorist acts.

The seven were convicted of participating in a training camp in Syria, spread of extremist ideology and raising funds to finance trips of Indonesian jihadists in the Middle East.

Indonesia is the country with the largest Muslim population in the world. The government wants to tighten anti-terror legislation to avoid radicalization. Last month, committed supporters of IS a terrorist attack in Jakarta, in which eight people including the four perpetrators were killed.
