Icy Sagrada Familia

hrebienok - The Sagrada Familia in Barcelona has been under construction for 135 years. It is still unclear when the basilica will be completed, but with a bit of luck this will have to happen at the end of next decade.

The Slovaks, on the other hand, have already finished the church. Not true size and made of ice instead of stone, but still. A group of Slovak, Czech and Spanish ice artists spent weeks trying to recreate the Sagrada Familia. For this, no less than 1440 blocks of ice have been used with a combined weight of around 190 tonnes.

The icy basilica is in Hrebienok, a town in the Tatra Mountains. Although it is quite refreshing at this time of the year, the ice artwork is nevertheless placed in a cooled dome to prevent melting. Admission to the Slovak Sagrada Familia is free.
