Hungary wants to tighten asylum seekers

budapest - The Hungarian parliament on Tuesday approved the detention of asylum seekers and refugees have been settled in their applications. Before an internment camp should be set up in a border area.

The MPs from the right-wing party Fidesz (Hungarian Bburgerunie) of Prime Minister Viktor Orban and MPs from the extreme nationalist opposition party Jobbik (Movement for a Better Hungary) voted for the harsh measure. The refugee agency of the United Nations (UNHCR) has noted with concern the Hungarian plan that would be contrary to international and European law.

Hungary has about ten million inhabitants, according to figures from 2015 per 100 000 inhabitants, most asylum applications in Europe. There were nearly 1,800 applications per 100 000 inhabitants, about 120 more than in Sweden and more than 6.5 times more than in the Netherlands.
