Hefty fine after being run iguana
- A bus driver from Ecuador to pay a fine of the equivalent of 13,000 euros because he was on the island of Baltra, part of the Galapagos, ran over a land iguana. The responsible Minister of the Environment has also held accountable manager of the local airport and the Colombian airline Avianca for the death of the 'devil's head '(Conolophus subcristatus).
The bus was carrying tourists from the airport to the ferry to go to the neighboring, larger island of Santa Cruz. The short ride seven kilometers took a Galapagos land iguana, a protected species of lizards 1.20 meter long, life. Animal welfare must make regular copies in safety crawling across the runway from Baltra.
