Guterres Secretary General of UN

World January 1, 2017 06:36

new york - The 67-year-old Portuguese Antonio Guterres begins Sunday formally as Secretary-General of the United Nations. He follows the South Korean Ban Ki-moon, who was in the last ten years at the helm of the country international organization.

Guterres has three priorities for his term appointed: work for peace, the promotion of sustainable development and internal reform. The United Nations should have more clout in his eyes, and they must change the organization.

The Socialist Guterres was from 1995 to 2002, Prime Minister of Portugal and led the UN refugee agency UNHCR since 2005.

Looking back on the two installments of Ban critics say that he has responded to waiting on some developments in the world. He is well recognized for its role in the climate negotiations. Presumably, he will be a candidate to become prime minister of South Korea.
