According to the working group by the Greek Government is charged with the refugee crisis there are currently approximately 33 320 refugees and migrants in Greece, writes
Kathimerini. The Red Cross, however, keeps more than 50 000. The existing application centers or 'hot spots' in the Greek islands, in Athens and Thessaloniki offer only accommodate about 17 000 people.

Most asylum seekers have gathered at the closed Macedonian border, hoping to travel to northwestern Europe. They do not want to be housed elsewhere for fear that they are late spot when Macedonia will open the border here.
