Grandpa dies after he saves grandson of ice

creglingen - A grandfather was killed in saving his grandson. This had fallen through the ice while skating on a frozen lake near the German town of Creglingen (Baden-Württemberg).

With his grandfather's help, the eight-year-old boy could come to the side. The 79-year-old man, who had tested the thickness of the ice before he let his grandchild go, also hit the water himself. He could no longer bring himself to safety on his own strength.

The police said on Wednesday that a first-aid man had managed to bring the old man to the edge of the lake and had landed him with geared-up colleagues. However, resuscitation attempts did not work out.
