Governor Florida signs weapon law

World March 9, 2018 21:33

miami - The governor of Florida Rick Scott has signed Friday a package of legal measures to make schools safer and help prevent bloodbaths such as at Douglas High in Parkland.

The minimum age to buy a gun increases to 21 years, there is a mandatory waiting time of three days for the purchase of a firearm and it is now allowed to arm a number of school staff.

The Florida Parliament approved the law Wednesday, three weeks after a young shooter had shot seventeen people at his old high school with a semi-automatic war gun.

That rapid action by the House of Representatives, where Republicans are serving and arms lobbyists of the NRA child at home, was mainly due to an impressive campaign of young people who survived the shooting. It fueled the debate about gun ownership throughout the US.
