oshawa (anp/bloomberg) - The American automaker General Motors (GM) will cut significantly in its workforce next year. The company also wants to close five factories in North America, as announced on Monday. At the end of 2019, GM will also close two factories outside the continent.

In total, GM deletes more than 10 000 jobs. This concerns about 15 percent of all employees, including a quarter of all management positions. According to the automaker, the major interventions are necessary to remain profitable. In addition, the company wants to be better able to respond to the increasing demand for electric cars with the measures.
