Germany warns Turkish espionage

berlin - The German domestic intelligence warns about three hundred two hundred Turks and Turkish institutions in Germany that they are spied by the Turkish intelligence service MIT. It is suspected supporters of the movement of cleric Fethullah Gülen.

The Turkish government believes that the cleric, who resides in the US, behind the failed coup attempt is last summer. MIT, the German intelligence service BND in February handed over a list of names of Turks living in Germany and organizations suspected by Turkey. That was according to German media apparently assuming that the BND would help with espionage.

The BND has passed on information to the national security service (Verfassungsschutz). Now warns that people on the list when traveling to Turkey can get problems.

The name list is sent to the states. The police go through the people and organizations on the list.
