cologne - Cologne, Düsseldorf and other German cities take measures against flooding, because the water level in the Rhine rises rapidly due to the heavy rain and thaw. Meteorologists predict a water level of 8.30 to 8.80 meters at Cologne by Sunday.
'If that level is indeed reached, we will have to temporarily stop shipping on the Rhine near Cologne,' said a spokesperson for the Cologne Water Management Service Friday against Focus magazine. With a water level of 8.30 meters, shipping is halted at Cologne. Friday was the level 7. 40 meters.
In the Cologne district of Porz-Zündorf a quay was made on Friday to protect the residents against the water. In Düsseldorf, a quay was erected in the old harbor to prevent water from flowing into the old town from the Rhine. In Bonn, the dikes have been subjected to a thorough inspection.
