cologne - The government wants to stop the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, the Turkish president Erdogan there comes a speech in connection with the referendum on the constitution in Turkey in April. The state has asked to help the national government in Berlin to prevent the speech.

Wednesday it was announced that Erdogan after a visit to Strasbourg in March will make a stopover in the German state to speak to Turks living there.

On April 16 there is a referendum, including on whether the Turkish Constitution should be changed and the country should move to a presidential system. That would significantly empower Erdogan. Turks also abroad, such as Germany, may to vote.

The interior minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, Ralph Jäger, takes the arrival of Erdogan but nothing. 'Freedom of expression here should not be misused in Turkey to promote a constitutional amendment which restricts fundamental rights and the death penalty entered again,' he says.
