bergisch - A blessing in disguise for detainees at a police station in Bergisch Gladbach in Cologne, Germany. The catering company which the police did business, abruptly canceled the contract, after which they had to quickly find an interim solution. MacDonald's offered solution.

The detainees can choose from a hamburger, cheeseburger or veggieburger of the fast food chain. The more luxurious burgers are not an option because they do not fall within budget. 'If we take people into custody, we are responsible for a basic meal,' said Officer Richard Barz to Bergisch Countries Zeitung.

They needed a caterer who 24 hours a day, seven days a week could deliver meals. 'The location and availability made it attractive to opt for McDonald's,' said Barz.

The regional government describes the burger solution as a 'stopgap; and that a new business agreement with a hospital vendor is in the making.
