German detective sees increase in cocaine smuggling

hamburg - The smuggling of cocaine has increased significantly over the past two years. That concludes the German Federal Criminal Police Office BKA, German media reported Tuesday. That inventory of all detected transport with more than 50 kilos and found that in 2016 72 percent more cocaine was discovered in 2014.

Worldwide, last year was 576 tons of cocaine intercepted. That was also 40 percent more than in 2015.

The increase can also be seen in figures of the three major European ports. Rotterdam last year was 14 tons of cocaine intercepted nearly 10 tons more than the previous year. Antwerp was about 27 tons (11 tonnes) and in Hamburg to 1.1 tons (almost double).
