German court: Puigdemont does not return to the cell

sleeswijk - The Catalan separatist leader Carles Puigdemont does not have to be detained again. The German public prosecutor had therefore asked, but the Schleswig-Holstein court of appeal now concludes that there is no increased risk of the politician taking flight.

German prosecutors have established that there is probably sufficient land to hand over Puigdemont because of rebellion. A German court ruled earlier that the separatist leader can not be transferred to Spain for that offense, but the Public Prosecution Service has now received new information from the Spanish authorities.

The German authorities arrested the ex-prime minister of Catalonia earlier this year near the Danish border. The German court still has to decide whether Puigdemont can be extradited to Spain. He may await the settlement of the extradition procedures outside the prison walls.
