moscow - A Russian blogger has been sentenced to a conditional imprisonment after playing Pokémon GO in a church in Yekaterinburg. The Public Prosecutor's Office wanted to send him to a labor camp for more than three years, but the judge did not agree with it.
The court ruled that 22-year-old Ruslan Sokolovsky is guilty of all charges, including hate speech. According to the magistrate, the blogger made scandalous videos to collect 'money and fame'. He condemned Sokolovsky to a conditional custody sentence and a 160-hour duty sentence.
Last year, the blogger shared a video on how to play the smartphone game in the church via the Internet. He compared Jesus Christ with a character from the game. Sokolovsky also said in the video that he was just playing in a church because he had seen the news that it was punishable.
