Gabriel foreign minister on Friday

berlin - The German socialist Sigmar Gabriel is Friday appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany. The office of the Federal President showed Wednesday that the head of state Joachim Gauck will appoint him Friday in Bellevue Palace.

Gabriel is currently Minister of Economic Affairs and follows his party colleague Frank-Walter Steinmeier on. Stepping on because he is a candidate to become Federal President. Gabriel is succeeded by his current deputy minister Brigitte Zypries.

Gabriel was seen as a candidate for chancellor for the SPD. Tuesday it became known that he renounces it in favor of the recently resigned MEP Martin Schulz.
