tokio - The authorities in Japan prefecture Fukushima have had cartoons made because of the nuclear disaster in 2011. The animated films have to try to disprove stories that circulate abroad about the radioactive contamination of agricultural and fishery products from the area, the public broadcaster NHK reports.

According to a representative from the prefecture, the five films have to be communicated in a fun way that eating locally produced food such as peaches, rice and beef is not dangerous. The authorities also plan to make such videos in English, Chinese, Spanish and French. These are expected to be disseminated via the internet, among other things.

On 11 March 2011 Japan was struck by a seaquake and a tsunami. This was followed by a nuclear disaster at the power station in Fukushima, which is near the sea.
