Franciscus creates five new cardinals

vatican city - Pope Franciscus will soon create five cardinals. He announced that on Sunday. The mentals that are promoted are from Mali, Spain, Sweden, Laos and El Salvador. The official ceremony, the so-called consistory, is on June 28th.

The rank of cardinal comes within the Roman Catholic Church immediately after that of Pope. They are his main advisors. Cardinals under 80 years of age can join the conclave for choosing a new pope. It will be the fourth time that Franciscus creates new cardinals.
