paris - France wants an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council on the situation in Syria. ' Ghouta, Idlib, Afrin- France asks for an emergency meeting of the Security Council ', writes French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian on Twitter.
Le Drian added that he had spoken to his Turkish colleague on Sunday morning.
Turkish ground troops entered the province of Afrin in the north of Syria on Sunday, according to the Turkish army. The military intervention comes a day after Turkey started air strikes against the US-backed Syrian-Kurdish militias in northern Syria.
