France dismantles platform on the darknet

paris - The French customs has rolled up an illegal online marketplace on the so-called darknet. The forum, known as the Black Hand, offered forbidden products and services for sale for more than two years. This is reported by the French Ministry of Budget.

The site would include drugs, weapons, false documents and stolen bank details. 'The roll-up of this platform is a national first,' said Minister of Budget GĂ©rald Darmanin.

During raids in several places, the main administrator of the site and other people have been arrested. Detectives had previously been able to access the server of the forum and secure a lot of data. The ministry describes the Black Hand as one of the most important illegal platforms operating on the darknet in France. Initial studies have shown that more than 3,000 people were registered there.

Internet users can appear almost entirely anonymously on the dark net. This part of the internet is used by people who value privacy or who live in a repressive political system, but also by criminals. Access is possible via anonymization software.
