vienna - A prominent politician of the Austrian right-wing party FPÖ resigned because he sang after-songs in his student days. The now 31-year-old Udo Landbauer said Thursday during a press conference that he put all his political functions down. He will therefore not be part of the parliament of Lower Austria, for which he was elected on Sunday during the state elections.

Landbauer was vice-chairman of the student association Germania at the time. Last week it was announced that this club had a book with song lyrics in which the sewing time was glorified. A newspaper received such a bundle with anti-Semitic and racist songs. It led to great commotion in Austria.

Although Landbauer said he did not know anything, he nevertheless resigns. He complained about the press representatives who attacked his house in the past few days and wants to get his family out of the field. Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) called this a sensible decision in the national media. Kurz 'party forms a right-conservative coalition with the FPÖ.
