Former Prime Minister Curacao hear verdict

- Former Prime Minister Gerrit Schotte of Curacao heard Friday of the judge whether and what punishment he gets. He is on trial for, among other official bribery, forgery and money laundering. The Public Prosecutor demanded three years in prison against him.

Gerrit Schotte (1974) was between 2010 and 2012, Prime Minister of Curacao. The prosecution alleges that adopted him money from a resident on Sint Maarten casino owner, Francesco Corallo, and thus a 'puppet' to have become the man is linked to the Italian mafia. His lawyer believes that there was a political process. Schotte himself spoke of character assassination. According to him, wants to avoid Netherlands he again comes to power.

Justice wants to revoke eligibility Schotte, for five years. That would mean that he can not participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections- the end of September- as leader of his political party MFF.
