Former Prime Minister Catalonia wants to go home anyway

brussels - The Catalan former Prime Minister Carles Puigdemont wants the Spanish government to allow him to return to Spain to become the president of the region at the opening session of the Catalan Parliament. He said that in an interview with Reuters news agency.

Puigdemont is still in Belgium where he fled with some ministers when he was deposed after the independence of Catalonia was declared. Separatist parties won the majority in the regional parliament last week in the elections organized by Madrid.

'I want to return to Catalonia as soon as possible. I would come back right now. That would be good news for Spain, 'said Puigdemont. On Friday, he declared himself ready to meet with Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy. But that meeting had to take place in Brussels or elsewhere, but not in Spain as long as Madrid does not guarantee that he will not be arrested.
