Former campaign manager Trump closes deal with prosecutor

washington - Paul Manafort, former President Trump's campaign leader, is ready to confess to several criminal offenses. The 69-year-old lobbyist has made a deal with prosecutors, which can be drawn from court documents.

Manafort was found guilty of bank and tax fraud last month. He also had to appear before the judge on suspicion of money laundering and because he would have failed to register as 'foreign agent' for the former pro-Russian government of Ukraine. He worked as a lobbyist in that Eastern European country and would have kept the millions he earned there from the American tax authorities.

The lobbyist's prosecution stems from the investigation of special prosecutor Robert Mueller. It does research into Russian interference in the 2016 American elections. It is unclear whether Manafort has also agreed to cooperate in that investigation.

His deal with the prosecutors must still be approved by the judge, the Washington Post reports.
