Foreigners shot in club Mexico

playa del carmen - In a shooting at a nightclub in the Mexican coastal city of Playa del Carmen, at least five dead and fifteen wounded. According to the Attorney General of the state of Quintana Roo were among the dead four foreigners: two Canadians, an Italian and a Colombian.

Four people were arrested on suspicion of involvement in the incident, but according to security staff there was one shooter.

During the party at the Blue Parrot Beach Club in the Caribbean coastal city of the offender opened fire on the revelers. The club held one of the last festivals of the BPM festival, taking in ten days time 375 dance artists perform in different countries.

The shooting is a big blow for Mexican tourism, one of the few bright spots in the weak Mexican economy.

The state of Quintana Roo and neighboring Yucatan peninsula have traditionally been less violent than other parts of Mexico. But by the many foreign tourists and a vibrant night life, there is an important market for drugs originated in and around Playa del Carmen.
