Flanders wants bike highway along the coast

bredene - The mayors of the Belgian coastal towns examine the feasibility of a 'bicycle highway along the Belgian coast.

The idea comes from Steve Vandenberghe, the Mayor of Bredene. The other coastal mayors see separate from the road, wide bike path also sit. It is environmentally friendly and healthy, may be an alternative for commuting and moreover responds to the growing number of electric bikes, they say.

The coast of Belgium is about seventy kilometers long and is located entirely in Flemish territory. Virtually from the Dutch to the French border has been running a tram line. The Province of West Flanders will apply for European funding for the project.
